Welcome to 2012 sailing season

A few reminders and important dates for the forthcoming season are listed below. The web site is now being updated and should be completed within a week or so, any suggestions and comments are welcome, please see Martin O'Connell.

Lift in dates have now been set for either Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of March or Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of April, please see the notice on the clubs notice board. Whichever dates members choose the dates have been set so make the most of the mild winter and 'Get your boat ready'.

Mooring checks are now being carried out, I don't need to remind you that it is a requiment of your insurance company to get them checked. The next available dates are Sunday 15th and Thursday the 19th of January. Please see the club notice board for future dates.

It is a real shame to see Louie lying on it's side after being blown over in the recent strong winds. Looking around there are a few boats in cradles without the required out riggers or straps. Can we all check our boats are secured and we've done all we can to prevent another boat being damaged.

Social and sailing events will follow when I get the dates. In the meantime Nick Nye is offering guitar lessons on a Friday evening, anybody can go along to join in or listen to the jam!

Good luck to all the racers in 2012, we had a great year last year with lots of trophys being won by the club and it members. Lets do the same again this year!!

Max takes Gloria to the Caribbean sun PDF Print E-mail

On the 6th September 2010 Max Liberson
embarked on an epic journey to the
Caribbean on board Gloria a 45 foot
Ferro cement schooner.

In July 2009 I became the proud owner of a 45 foot Ferro cement schooner called Gloria. I was surprised. My offer of £1,500 was well short of the asking price. Several of my friends who came and saw the boat expressed the opinion that my grip on reality which had always been tenuous, had slipped. I had been looking at Gloria as a house boat, but shortly after my purchasing her, the work I was doing in Galleons Point marina dried up. So, not only did I not need a house boat in Galleons, but I could not afford one either. A mad period followed in which with the help of good friends, (Karl, Barry, and Dave) I got the new coach roof on, stepped the masts, and got the engine working.
