We are a members club providing access to the River Thames for yachting and boating.

We have facilities for:

• Mooring vessels off shore on our trot, deep water, low water and mud moorings.
• On-shore winter storage with lift-out by crane.
• All members are expected to join in and assist with the activities of the club.
• Members provide their own anchors, buoys and chain to lay a mooring at a place allocated by the club.
• Members provide their own dinghy to access their mooring.
• The maximum vessel size is 34 feet overall.

Unfortunately we do not have facilities for:

• Speedboats.
• Large wooden boats.
• Continuous launching and recovery (Except for sailing dinghies).
• Non-boating members (Family as associates welcome).

Interested?

Membership is by invitation of the Club Committee.

Please feel welcome to visit our clubhouse any Thursday evening from 8.30 pm. Our club officers will be able to provide full details of the facilities on offer. It will also give an opportunity to get to know each other. If it's right for you then you will need to complete a membership form and get it proposed and seconded. membership form.

Once completed the membership form must be displayed on the Club notice board for at least 1 month prior to going to a full committee meeting for election.

Fees
New members are asked to make a new members donation fee on joining the club. This is as acknowledgement of the ability to use the facilities which have been provided by the existing members.
Fees are paid annually at a level agreed at the previous Annual General Meeting (AGM). They are for the period 1stOctober until 30th September.
Fees must be paid by the date of the AGM, which is normally the last weekend of November. Some provision for reduction of fees exists if you do not join the club until after June.

The Club
The club was initially formed in1946 and has been active ever since. The most recent clubhouse was completed in 1973 and was built and fitted out by the club members. This gives you some idea of the commitment to the club.
Previously the clubhouse had been an 18th century lightship named “The Gull” and there are photographs around the club premises identifying this. The club is totally run by volunteers and therefore it’s success depends on the full participation of ALL members.

The Clubhouse
The club is open every Thursday evening from 8.00pm for club night. All members are advised to attend, as information on future activities is announced on these evenings. In addition to this the club is also open Saturday and Sunday lunch times so that members can gather and discuss items of interest in summer and winter. During the week the clubhouse is open most days from 10.00am till around 4.00pm to allow members access to maintain their boats or just partake in a nice cup of tea and a chat. Social evenings are also organised and are advertised in the clubhouse.
Volunteering for bar duty is one of the major involvements of members in helping to keep costs down within the club. It is also an ideal way to meet members when first joining the club. So from our point of view we ask all members to undertake bar duties at least a couple of times during the year. It is quite interesting how experienced members become with their bar sessions.

Upkeep of Foreshore and Buildings
This again is by volunteer help from members, although occasionally we have to employ contractors on larger tasks. Our membership consists of many varied experts and we attempt to utilise their skills to keep the club going. However, the majority of “work parties” really need willing hands to improve and keep the place tidy.
Having attempted to introduce you to the club it is necessary to reinforce the conditions under which the club operates. Whilst no committee wants to live under a weighty rulebook it has been found necessary to introduce some rules so the club operates for the benefit of all members.

Moorings
The responsibility to maintain and provide mooring equipment rests with the club member once the foreshore committee allocates the place. The boat must be insured, at least for third party claims, and the members must provide a written statement to that effect before the boat is allowed on the premises and thereafter annually.

Membership
Full members may introduce one or more associate members to the club. Applications must be made by way of application form to a full committee meeting. This is to allow spouses and children to visit the premises on a regular basis. Please note rule 16.h – Provided the number of members in clause b – g inclusive shall not form a significant proportion of the total membership of the club.

Full members can introduce 2 visitors in any one day. Any visitor is only allowed 6 visits in any 12 month period. If a person wishes to visit the club more often the committee would recommend membership. Cadet members are 11 to 18 years old and midshipmen are 18 to 21 years old. We would encourage your family to participate in club activities although we have to be aware of the licensing act. New members are on a probationary period of 6 months.

Rule Book
This introduction has attempted to highlight some aspects about the club. More details are available in the club’s rulebook, which you are advised to read.
