Sailing Secretary - Linda Brown

We aim for a varied sailing program at Thurrock Yacht Club balancing Racing with Social Sailing Events throughout our season in the water, which is usually April until October.

Our Racing Calendar offers an Evening Race Series on alternate Thursday evenings, where the best 8 from 12 results count to form a league table. New in 2010 for the Evening Series, we are having 2 classes - Class A (the earnest racers) and Class B (the picnic party boats!) There are also a number of weekend Trophy Races and we are also making inroads into even more Inter Club Racing with Social Activities. We hope to build on previous success and do more racing and socialising with the Erith and Greenwich Yacht Clubs and Gravesend Sailing Club in future.

One of our favourite events in the Social Sailing Calendar is a day out downriver to Blyth Sands where we "dry out", have a quick scrub off (hulls, that is) play cricket, have a Tug'o'War and of course a Barbeque, which is what we do best at Thurrock. The Weekend Rallies are also very popular with many club members and depending on the tides we go upriver to Limehouse and St Katts Marinas or downriver to Hoo / Queenborough and Chatham Marina. A certain yacht produces jugs of a rather potent "Caribbean Rum Punch" which kick starts the revelry and it's pretty much downhill all the way from there! We are also represented each year at the Narrow Seas Club Calais Rally by varying numbers of yachts. And last year we had a good turn out for our own Bastille Bash - a trip to France and Belgium taking in the fabulous fireworks displays in France on 14th July and mouthwatering steaks in Nieueport!
